In March 2007, the Government of Ontario announced a $6 million investment in the Biocar research & development at the Universities of Guelph, Toronto, Waterloo and Windsor. The funds were made available from the Ontario Research Fund's Research Excellence Program, part of the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.

University of Guelph researchers are also working with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on various Biomaterials projects. The projects aim to develop new products and new technologies in order to address emerging needs and market opportunities for bio-products. Guelph's expertise in life sciences, crop and livestock genetics, breeding and production, environmental management, and business/market analysis provides a natural platform for our involvement.
