First Annual BioCar Initiative Research Meeting
The Ontario BioCar Initiative held it's first annual research meeting with welcoming address by Dr. Amar Mohanty, Premier's Research Chair in Biomaterials & Transportation, University of Guelph. Industry presentation by Dr. Hamdy Khalil, Global Director of Research and Development, and Product Development, Woodbridge and outreach activities by Dr. Valerie Davidson, NSERC/HP Canada Chair for Women in Science and Engineering, University of Guelph. There were over 60 participants from academia and industry.

Seminar: "Recent Developments in Natural Fiber Composite Research at KIT", from Dr. Hiroyuki Hamada
One of the strategic foci of the Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) Japan is to investigate composite materials including, but not limited to, textile composites,
durability of composites and short fiber-reinforced injection-moulded composites.
The research on bio-composite materials was initiated by the collaboration
between Prof. Mohanty and Prof. Hamada. In his presentation, Prof. Hamada will
address some of the results on continuous fiber-reinforced polylactic acid (PLA)
and hybrid-fiber composites fabricated via injection moulding technique.

Public lecture: "The New Agriculture: The Journey for a Sustainable Bioeconomy", from Dr. Amar Mohanty
The University of Guelph's Premier's Research Chair in Biomaterials and Transportation will give his first public lecture Feb. 27 at 5:45 p.m. in Room 1714 of the Lifetime Learning Centre. The event is free and open to the general public.
Amar Mohanty, a former Michigan State University professor and an international leader in the field of biomaterials, will speak on "The New Agriculture: The Journey for a Sustainable Bioeconomy" as part of the Ontario Agricultural College's (OAC) Public Lecture Series.
